RINGGOLD LACROSSE

The lacrosse program through RYSA is an at-large program, meaning that we take players from not only Ringgold, but other Chattanooga area towns as well.  We are in our second year as last spring we had our first competitive season with one co-ed middle school team.  For Spring 2015, we hope to continue the middle school program as well as begin a grades 3, 4, 5 competitive team.  We compete against several other newer lacrosse programs in the greater Chattanooga area.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Do you have to try out to play lacrosse?

No, most kids that enter our program have never picked up a stick before.  Lacrosse does require athletic ability and hand/eye coordination, but we will teach the game of lacrosse to anyone who signs up for the program.

How old do you have to be to play lacrosse for RYSA?

We are expecting to have two teams this coming Spring 2015.  One team is for players in 6th, 7th, 8th grade.  The other team will be for players in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade.

Is this a co-ed program?

Yes, both teams will be co-ed, however, we will be playing the boys' version of lacrosse since the other co-ed Chattanooga area lacrosse teams we are playing are doing the same.  We  DO have girls in our program and we want more!!

How many players on the field?

There are 10 players per team for a game of lacrosse: goalie, 3 attackmen (offense), 3 middies (midfielders), 3 defensemen

What about equipment?

We have sticks your player can borrow, though we do encourage players to purchase their own sticks as it is first come, first serve once the season begins.  We use boy's lacrosse sticks and these can be purchased at Dicks, Academy Sports or any other large sporting stores.  Players are required to wear a lacrosse helmet, gloves, arm guards, and chest pad.  Ringgold Lacrosse owns several sets of padding that can be loaned out during the season based on sizes of players,  We do not own helmets, so be prepared to purchase this.  Last season we were able to borrow loaner equipment from Chattanooga Lacrosse and while that is a possibility for the upcoming season, it is not guaranteed since they loan to all starter lacrosse programs in the greater Chattanooga area.

When is lacrosse played?

Lacrosse is a spring sport.  We begin practicing the beginning of February and games take place in March and April.  Please register on this website when registration opens in the winter.
